Twenty-four professors and four departments at California State University-Northridge received a total of $50,000 from the university's Center for Community Service-Learning to fund new service-learning programs, including family development, service-learning scholar, gang prevention initiative, interdisciplinary project incentive and department incentive grants.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) received a $250,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to create opportunities for Hispanic students both at the undergraduate and graduate level in national science and technology research projects.
Mt. San Antonio College (Calif.) Relays Youth Days program has been awarded a $121,000 grant from the Amateur Athletic Foundation (AFF) of Los Angeles, marking the 19th year in a row the AAF has sponsored the event. Over 13,000 young athletes from 150 elementary and middle schools are expected to participate in this year's Youth Days track and field clinics.

North Carolina A&T State University's biology department was awarded a five-year $4.6 million research infrastructure grant from the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities at the National Institutes of Health. The purpose of the grant is to expand genetics research capacity at N.C. A&T and lay the groundwork for a Center of Excellence in Genetics Research and Training.
Truckee Meadows Community College (Nev.) received a Congressional Award of $397,400 to fund technology and work force initiatives. TMCC will use the money to create a new associate of applied science degree in manufacturing technology and a new certificate program for teaching professionals or teachers' assistants (as required by the No Child Left Behind Act). Additionally, TMCC will use a portion of the funds to create a Center for Teaching Excellence where instructors can get additional classroom technology training.
