Dr. Earl Lewis has been named provost at Emory University in Atlanta. Presently, Lewis is dean of the School of Graduate Studies and vice provost for academic affairs at the University of Michigan. He earned a bachelor's degree in history and psychology from Concordia College in Minnesota and master's and doctoral degrees in history from the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Jesse C. McCarroll, professor emeritus of music at New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York, has been named national representative of the U.S. to the Pan African Society for Musical Arts Education. He received a bachelor's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, a master's, and a doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Dr. Maxine Funderburk Moore is the new vice president for academic affairs at Mississippi Valley State University. Moore comes from Johnson C. Smith University where she was a dean and professor of English. She earned a bachelor's degree from Johnson C. Smith University, a master's from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and a doctorate from Emory University in Atlanta.

Eddie N. Moore Jr., president at Virginia State University, has been named to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II President's Council. He represents the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association on the 14-member council. Moore received a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University and a master's from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Johnny E. Tolliver has been selected as vice chancellor for academic affairs at Southern University. Tolliver recently was a distinguished lecturer for the department of English at Lincoln University. He earned a bachelor's degree in English from Jackson State University and a doctorate in English and American literature and language from Harvard University.

Gregory Vincent has been named to the newly created post of vice provost for institutional equity and diversity at the University of Oregon. Vincent was a law professor and vice provost at Louisiana State University. He also served as assistant vice chancellor at the University of Wisconsin. He earned a law degree from Ohio State University.
