Auburn University-Montgomery has been awarded a $7 million grant from the U.S. Office of Special Education to operate the Southeast Regional Resource Center.

Illinois Institute of Technology was awarded a $255,000 gift from the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation to fund six full-tuition, five-year scholarships to qualified individuals who will be first year architecture students in the fall of 1999.

Midland College was given ownership of the Wagon Wheel Ranch, a 4,200-acre spread in Upton County, Texas, from Viola and Odis Holiman.

Savannah State University has been awarded a $100,000 donation from the Savannah State University Alumni Association. The donation represents the largest single gift from the SSUNAA in the history of the institution.

Stillman College has been awarded a $3.7 million federal welfare-to-work grant. The grant will allow Stillman to assist 800 people currently on welfare to find meaningful and long-term employment.

The University of Memphis has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. The grant is being used to support The Center for Research on Women, which will offer residential fellowship to scholars studying race and gender in the mid-South.

The National Space and Aeronautics Administration has selected nine institutions to receive Minority University Mathematics, Science, and Technology Awards for Teacher and Curriculum Enhancement Program from the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs. Each award recipient will receive $200,000 per year for three years. The purpose of the grant is to provide opportunities for minority colleges and universities to develop diverse and exemplary research-based
 mathematics, science, technology or geography teacher education
curricula, integrated with content from NASA's mission. The institutions selected were:

 Bowie State University
 California State University-Dominguez Hills
 City University of New York-Medgar Evers College
 Florida International University
 Heritage College
 Jackson State University
 Mississippi Valley State University
 South Carolina State University
 Xavier University
