Dr. Belinda C. Anderson has been named president of Virginia Union University. Anderson, who had been serving as interim president since last year, joined Virginia Union in 2000 as vice president for academic affairs. She earned a bachelor's and master's from Radford University and a doctorate in higher education administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Dr. Joanne Berger-Sweeney, associate professor of biological studies at Wellesley College, has been named an associate dean of the college. She is a fellow of the International Behavioral Neuroscience Society and directs its minority fellowship program. Berger-Sweeney received a bachelor's from Wellesley and a doctorate in neurotoxicology from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Vernon J. Hurte is the new assistant director of multicultural affairs at the College of William and Mary. Previously, he was a graduate assistant in the Office of Minority Student Affairs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Hurte earned a bachelor's in psychology from Bowie State University and a doctorate in educational psychology from UT-Knoxville.

Dr. Boris E. Ricks has been appointed as the Mellon postdoctoral fellow at Pomona College of the Claremont College Consortium. He has also accepted a faculty fellowship at Indiana University. He earned a bachelor's from Mississippi Valley State University, a master's from the University of Mississippi and a master's and doctorate from the University of Southern California.

Dr. Valerie Smith Stephens has been elected president of the College Reading and Learning Association. Currently, she is director of the Learning Resource Center at Rutgers University-Camden. Stephens earned a bachelor's degree, a master's degree in social work and a doctorate in education all from Rutgers University.

Frank H. Wu has been named dean of Wayne State University Law School in Detroit effective July 15. Wu has been on the faculty of the Howard University School of Law for nine years. He also directed the Clinical Law Center at Howard for two years. Wu received a bachelor's degree in writing from Johns Hopkins University and a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.
