Grants & AwardsThe City Colleges of Chicago received $1 million from the McCormick-Tribune Foundation for a project that will strengthen the district's child development curriculum. The project also will align the district's child care centers with the new curriculum so that the centers may serve as laboratories for students studying in that field.Forsyth Technical Community College (N.C.) received a $754,146 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration to establish a groundbreaking biotechnology training program. Mt. San Antonio College and Cal Poly Pomona received a three-year $900,000 grant to develop new courses and degree programs that will train information security professionals to guard against computer crime. North Carolina A&T State University received a $250,000 gift from Wachovia Corporation. A portion of the money, $200,000, will be used to create an endowed scholarship in honor of Dr. Quiester Craig, dean of the School of Business and Economics. The remaining $50,000 will be used to place a sculpture on the school's campus.Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society of the two-year college, received a $568,250 continuation grant from the National Science Foundation's Advanced Technology Education Division to expand the role of community colleges in the training and preparation of science and mathematics teachers. The University of Iowa received a three-year, $450,000 grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration to help the University's Department of Family Medicine provide training opportunities for students to work with Hispanic and geriatric patients.  Voorhees College (S.C.) received $12,500 from Bell South as part of the College's fund-raising efforts with the Tom Joyner Foundation. The donation will be matched through the foundation.
