Carnegie Mellon, Tech Group To Start Cyber Security Alliance
WASHINGTON
Last month, the Electronic Industries Alliance's (EIA) Internet Security Alliance (ISAlliance) and Carnegie Mellon University's (CMU) new CyLab announced a major expansion of the ISAlliance-CMU three-year partnership. As part of the expansion, the two groups will deepen their collaboration and provide the international private sector with a new suite of joint cyber-security services and products.
Among the expected products and services will be: a new program to demonstrate the return on investment to cyber security and expand the use of risk-management systems in corporate environments; an expanded program to develop an incentive-based paradigm (as opposed to government regulations) to spur improved cyber security and; an enhanced information-sharing program which will focus on developing trends, forecasting cyber events and presenting data on current events.
In addition, ISAlliance will launch a new "Wholesale Membership" initiative to encourage small business participation in organizations such as ISA, by allowing trade associations to join on behalf of their smaller members.
The ISAlliance is also unveiling A Common Sense Guide to Cyber Security for Small Businesses. The guidebook, a joint production of CMU and ISAlliance, undertaken in conjunction with the recent National Cyber Security Summit, includes a series of factual case studies of small businesses who have been significantly harmed by cyber events.
