Knoxville College Chooses Hatton
Dr. Barbara Hatton has been chosen to lead Knoxville College in Tennessee. She is the former deputy director of the education and culture program at the Ford Foundation. Hatton holds a bachelor’s in psychology and mathematics from Howard University, a master’s from Atlanta University and a second master’s in business and education and a doctorate in education, both from Stanford University.

Surles Appointed at Eastern Illinois
Dr. Carol D. Surles has been appointed president of Eastern Illinois University. Previously, she was president at Texas Woman’s University. Surles holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Fisk University, a master’s in counseling from Chapman College and a doctorate in education from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Martin Named Chancellor at Winston-Salem State
Dr. Harold L. Martin Sr. will become chancellor of Winton-Salem State University in North Carolina. He previously was a professor, dean and, most recently, vice chancellor for academic affairs at North Carolina A&T State University. Martin holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in electrical engineering, both from North Carolina A&T State University, and a doctorate in engineering from Virginia Polytechnic and State University.

Alfonza L. Carter has been named athletic director at Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. Carter has served in a number of positions at Shaw, most recently as assistant vice president for student affairs.  Carter holds a bachelor’s and master’s from North Carolina A&T State University.

Dr. Robert A. Catlin has been named provost and vice president of academic affairs at California State University-Bakersfield. He has extensive experience in higher education as a professor and dean. Most recently, he was professor of planning and public policy at Rutgers University. Catlin holds a bachelor’s in city planning from Illinois Institute of Technology, a master’s in city and regional planning from Columbia University in New York and a doctorate in American government from Claremont Graduate University.

Bobby Williams  has been named the new head football coach at Michigan State University. Williams has been on the coaching staff at Michigan State for 10 years, most recently as associate head coach and running back coach. Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in general management from Purdue University.

Dr. Carolyn W. Meyers is the new interim vice chancellor for academic affairs at North Carolina A&T State University. She is currently a program officer for the National Science Foundation. Meyers holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Howard University and a master’s and a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Stephanie Bell-Rose has been named president of the of the Goldman Sachs Foundation. The foundation will focus on education with a special emphasis on promoting educational excellence. Previously, Bell-Rose was with the Mellon Foundation. She holds a  bachelor’s from Harvard/Radcliffe in government, a masters in public policy from Harvard University and a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School.

Dr. William B. DeLauder, president of Delaware State University, was recently presented the distinguished Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund Education Leadership Award at the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund annual awards dinner in New York City. The award recognizes leaders for providing educational and professional opportunities for student attending historically Black colleges and universities. DeLauder holds a bachelor’s of science from Morgan State University and a doctorate in physical chemistry from Wayne State University.
