Bennett College (N.C.) has received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education for supporting the college's teacher education program and enhancing skills of in-service teachers through the creation of a curriculum instructional material center and implementation of professional development opportunities.

California State University-Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) received a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds pursue their doctoral studies. In addition, CSUDH's School of Education received a $75,000 grant from the Hearst Foundation to help students complete teacher preparation courses faster and find jobs in "hard-to-staff" local schools. The grant helps the university's efforts to award scholarships to deserving students who pursue teaching as a vocation.

California State University-Northridge (CSUN) received $25,000 from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for student scholarships. In addition, CSUN, in partnership with the Jeopardy Foundation and the Los Angeles Police Department, has been awarded a three-year $375,000 grant for a new anti-gang program.

Moraine Valley Community College (Ill.) received three Workforce Investment Act grants totaling $308,000 from the Cook County President's Office of Employment and Training. The grants will allow the college to continue its efforts in providing community youths and adults with employment support and training.

Ohio State University's School of Public Health received a $30 million donation from Pennsylvania real estate investor Zell Kravinsky to fund public health research within the school.

St. Augustine's College (N.C.) has received $475,000 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to strengthen its core program for first- and second-year students and to develop a testing center to enhance student placement, faculty development activities and internal assessment at the institution.
