The College of the Canyons (Calif.) EPIC Center for the Performing Arts received $2 million from Vital Express, a local and national transportation service provider, and will be renamed the Vital Express Center for the Performing Arts.

Hampton University (Va.) was recently awarded a $107,459 grant from the Virginia State Council for Higher Education’s No Child Left Behind Program, Title II, Part A. Ten Virginia institutions were awarded the grant, and Hampton is the only HBCU to be selected.

North Carolina Central University received $1 million from the family of the late Dr. Mary M. Townes. The donation was given in honor of the endowment established by Dr. Townes, who served the university for nearly 44 years.

The United Negro College Fund received a $500,000 donation from Hershey Foods Corp. to establish the UNCF/Hershey Foods Scholarship. In 2005, Hershey Foods will contribute $100,000 as part of the five-year commitment to UNCF.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center is the recipient of a $5 million gift from Dr. Leland and Dorothy Olson to go toward the Olson Women’s Outpatient Care Center as part of the Olson Center for Women’s Health.

The University of Oklahoma has received a $10 million pledge from Devon Energy Corp. to help fund a $27 million teaching and researching facility for the UO College of Engineering. The 80,000 square foot building will allow the engineering college to increase its faculty size and graduate student enrollment by 40 percent.

The University of Pennsylvania received $32.5 million from the Annenberg Foundation for a new policy center building and humanities chair. The donation will be used to construct a building that will adjoin the Annenberg School for Communication and house the school’s Annenberg Public Policy Center.
