Wireless Internet Service Provided At College Bowl GameBOISE, Idaho
As the Fresno State Bulldogs prevailed against the University of Virginia Cavaliers in the MPC Computers Bowl game on Dec. 27, fans watching the contest in Bronco Stadium had free wireless Internet access that allowed them to view Web coverage over laptops and personal digital assistant (PDA) devices. In a move to showcase its wireless Internet service, IKANO Communications, the owner of the HOTSPOTZZ Wi-Fi network services group, provided the free wireless Internet access at the game, which had 28,500 in total attendance.

"Wi-Fi is all about enhancing the fan experience with relevant information," says Henry Smith, HOTSPOTZZ chief executive officer.

Wi-Fi uses radio waves that allow attendees with wireless-enabled laptops or handheld devices to access the Internet from the stadium. Wi-Fi "hot spots" use wireless technology known as 802.11b and are becoming standard in public places such as coffee shops, airports and hotels. Wi-Fi access is now gaining popularity at sporting arenas and events across the country such as basketball, football and car racing.

MPC Computers, which is based in Idaho, developed an elaborate Technology Pavilion at the stadium, providing guests the chance to learn about the newest innovations in personal computing and HOTSPOTZZ high-speed wireless Internet.
