Campbellsville University (Ky.) has received $500,000 from the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education. The funds will be split equally to help establish a new nursing degree program and provide free technology training and business-related coursework to displaced workers from the surrounding region.

Elizabeth City State University (N.C.) received a $400,000 grant from the North Carolina Board of Education to support the opening of seven 21st Century Community Learning Centers. In addition, ECSU received $1,986,995 from the U.S. Department of Education for the Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities (Title III) program. The program will provide financial assistance to establish or strengthen the physical plants, financial management and academic resources of ECSU.

The Hastings College Foundation (Neb.) has received $1.5 million from the estate of Omaha physicians Waldean and Matilda McIntire. A total of $500,000 is earmarked for the Waldean C. McIntire Scholarship Fund for Biology Majors, and $1 million is to be directed toward the Waldean C. McIntire Distinguished Endowed Chair of Biological Sciences.

The Medical University of South Carolina received a $625,000 grant from the Wachovia Breast Cancer Initiative to maintain its mobile breast exams, mammograms and educational outreach primarily for Hispanic and Black women who are at high risk.

North Carolina A&T State University’s Institute for Human-Machine studies received a $200,501 Homeland Security grant from the U.S. Air Force to study planning, logistics and decision making during national emergencies that require a coalition of various national services similar to those used for the World Trade Center attack. The project involves developing training software to support coordination and management of emergency resources.
