Delaware State University to Collaborate With Egyptian University on Research, Faculty Exchanges

DOVER, Del.
Delaware State University (DSU) recently signed a new partnership agreement with the Ain Shams University of Cairo, Egypt, further expanding its linkages with institutions of higher education all over the world.

The three-year agreement — signed on Jan. 25 by DSU President Allen Sessoms and Dr. Wagdy Abdel-Monem Mashhoor, vice dean for graduate studies and research at Ain Shams University — will link the two institutions in cooperative collaborations on research projects, faculty/student exchanges and conferences.

The partnership will connect the DSU departments of agriculture and natural resources with the faculty of agriculture of Ain Shams. The Egyptian institution will send faculty to do post-doctoral research at DSU, and both institutions will develop joint-scientific research projects.

“We are excited about our partnership with Ain Shams, and expect that it will be mutually beneficial to both institutions,” Sessoms says. “We are especially enthusiastic about the research possibilities in agriculture and natural resource that we will jointly conduct.”

Mashhoor says that the partnership would take on a life of its own. “Ain Shams University will benefit greatly from the collaborations with Delaware State University, and our faculty are excited about the possibilities through this partnership,” Mashhoor says.

In addition to formal partnerships with France, Mexico, Namibia, Senegal and Panama, over the last five months DSU has signed partnership agreements with institutions of higher education in the Republic of China, Bangladesh, Serbia, Nigeria, as well as Egypt. The partnerships are facilitated through the DSU Office of International Affairs, led by Dr. Johnny L. Graham, assistant vice president.
