Grants & Awards

The California State University, Northridge Marilyn Magaram Center for Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics received a $250,000 grant from the Joseph Drown Foundation to support ongoing programs and the operation of the center. It will also support faculty, equipment and administration.

The Duke University (N.C.) Divinity School received $6.7 million from Lilly Endowment Inc. to promote innovative pastoral leadership and excellence in ministry. The grant supports “Advancing Pastoral Excellence,” a new phase of the program “Pulpit & Pew: Research on Pastoral Leadership.”

Hampton University (Va.) was awarded $250,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation to initiate a university
transportation center in 2005.

The Howard University (Washington, D.C.) division of fine arts in the college of arts and sciences received $500,000 from the family of famed artist, Howard graduate and former university professor Lois Mailou Jones, to establish the Lois Mailou Jones Scholarship for students in fine arts.

Mt. San Antonio College (Calif.) was awarded a $121,000 grant from the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles to fund the Mt. SAC Relays Youth Day. The relays are two days of track and field competition and instruction for third- through eighth-graders.

North Carolina A&T State University Foundation received a $275,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to support the proposed Aggie Center for African-American Entrepreneurship and Wealth and the interdisciplinary campus-wide financial literacy program.

Sacramento City College (Calif.) has been awarded $400,000 from the U.S. House of Representatives to reduce the nursing shortage by recruiting and developing potential nurses and encouraging under-represented and non-traditional students to enter the nursing field.
