Howard University Launches Relief Web Site

WASHINGTON, D.C.
Howard University has launched a web site, www.hbcurelief.org, dedicated solely to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast. The site will serve as a message and information center for students, parents, family members and persons interested in providing donations and support for the impacted colleges and universities. It will also be a fund raising means for those who wish to donate to HBCUs impacted by Katrina.

Specific information that can be found at www.hbcurelief.org includes:

-How displaced students can apply for admission to Howard University
-Howard’s relief assistance for the victims of Hurricane Katrina
-Links to other HBCU relief efforts
-Links to resources on topics such as volunteer opportunities, displaced  students, charitable giving, missing persons, temporary housing
-Avenues for personal involvement in helping alleviate the effects of Hurricane Katrina
-How to donate to support the relief effort
-An invitation to share Katrina stories online

“Howard University extends its deepest sympathies to all those who have been impacted by the disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast states. We pray for them, and trust that they will find the strength to sustain them through this difficult time,” says H. Patrick Swygert, president of Howard. “As we move forward, Howard stands prepared to assist in whatever way we can.”
