Dr. James A. Anderson has been named vice president for student success and vice provost for institutional assessment and diversity at the University at Albany, State University of New York. Previously he was vice president and associate provost for institutional assessment and diversity at Texas A&M University. Anderson received a bachelor’s from Villanova University and a doctorate from Cornell University.
Dr. Katherine Olukemi Bankole has been named associate professor of history at West Virginia University. For the past nine years she served as director of the WVU Center for Black Culture and Research. She earned a bachelor’s from Howard University and a master’s and doctorate from Temple University.
Dr. Jeffrey Brenzel has been named dean of undergraduate admissions at Yale University. Previously, he was executive director of the Association of Yale Alumni. Brenzel earned a bachelor’s from Yale College and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Notre Dame.
Dr. Lamont A. Flowers has been appointed distinguished professor of educational leadership and director of the Charles H. Houston Center for the Study of the Black Experience in Education at Clemson University. Most recently, he served as associate professor at the University of Florida. Flowers earned a bachelor’s from Virginia Commonwealth University and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Iowa.
Dr. Everette J. Freeman has been named the eighth president of Albany State University in Georgia. Previously he was the senior vice president and provost at the University of Indianapolis. Freeman earned a certificate in economics from Fircroft College in Birmingham, England, a bachelor’s from Antioch College, a master’s from the University of Illinois and a doctorate from Rutgers University.
Dr. Whitney Harris has been appointed executive director of diversity and multiculturalism for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Previously he was director of diversity and affirmative action at Eastern Michigan University. Harris earned bachelor’s from McNeese State University, the University of Ottawa and St. Paul University, a master’s from Louisiana State University and a doctorate from the Union Institute and University.
Dr. William B. Harvey has been named the University of Virginia’s first vice president and chief officer for diversity and equity. Most recently he was the vice president of the Center for Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Equity at the American Council on Education. Harvey earned a bachelor’s from West Chester University and a master’s and doctorate from Rutgers.
Dr. Keith H. Jackson is the new vice president for research at Florida A&M University. Most recently he was associate director for the Center For X-Ray Optics at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. Jackson earned bachelor’s degrees from Morehouse College and the Georgia Institute of Technology and a doctorate from Stanford University.
Peter McPherson has been named president of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges effective Jan. 1. Most recently, he was the president of Michigan State University. McPherson earned a bachelor’s from Michigan State, a master’s from Western Michigan University and a law degree from American University.
Dr. Hyounkyun Oh has been named assistant professor of mathematics at Savannah State University in Georgia. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Chung-Nam National University in Korea, and a second master’s and doctorate from the University of Iowa.
Wenceslaus P’Oryem has been appointed assistant director of international student services and career development at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. Previously, he was a graduate assistant student manager of the math resource center at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Louisville.
Dr. Betty Stewart has been named professor of chemistry at Austin College in Texas. She has been a member of the faculty at Austin since 1993. Stewart earned a bachelor’s from Mississippi State University and a doctorate from Carnegie-Mellon University.
