Motorola Donates $250,000 to Katrina-Affected HBCUs
SCHAUMBURG, Ill.

The Motorola Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Inc., is donating $250,000 to the United Negro College Fund for its support of universities that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

The donation will provide economic relief to students and faculty at Xavier University of Louisiana, Dillard University and Southern University-New Orleans, which were all severely damaged when Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast region. Funding from Motorola will help cover the costs of rebuilding math, science and technology centers at the three schools.

“Together with UNCF, Motorola is committed to the successful rebuilding of these institutions. We are proud that these funds will help the three schools achieve long-term goals of delivering high quality math, science and technology programs to students,” says Ed Zander, Motorola’s chairman and CEO.

With the UNCF gift, Motorola’s humanitarian and business response to the 2005 hurricanes represents the single-largest disaster recovery effort in the company’s 77-year history. Motorola’s response included in-kind and equipment donations in addition to a cash gift.
