The University of Iowa received a $1 million donation from Donald W. Heineking to endow athletics scholarships in eight sports, including baseball, football and wrestling. Heineking is chairman of the board of Security State Bank in Hubbard, Iowa.

The University of Virginia received a $4.5 million grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for a study on mental health outpatient treatment. The grant will fund the final phase of a three-part study on legally mandated treatments for people with mental disorders.
