Dr. George W. Breslauer has been named executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California, Berkeley. A Berkeley faculty member for 35 years, he most recently served as the executive dean of the College of Letters and Science. Breslauer earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from the University of Michigan.
Veta Byrd has been named assistant general counsel at Rice University. Most recently, she practiced corporate and transactional law with the firm Vinson and Elkins. Byrd earned a bachelor’s from Spelman College and a law degree from Yale Law School.
Derrick Gragg has been appointed athletics director at Eastern Michigan University. He was most recently deputy athletic director at the University of Arkansas. Gragg earned a bachelor’s from Vanderbilt University and a master’s from the University of Arkansas.
Dr. Susan Kelly has been appointed president of the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. She has served as university provost and vice president for academic affairs for the University of Wisconsin System. Kelly earned a bachelor’s from the University of Tasmania, a master’s from the University of Canberra and a doctorate from the University of Melbourne.
Dr. Leo Lewis III is the new associate athletics director for student-athlete development at the University of Minnesota. A former player for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, he earned a bachelor’s from the University of Missouri, master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee and Argosy University and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. David McClain has been appointed president of the University of Hawaii System. Most recently, he served as interim president and previously as system vice president for academic affairs. He earned a bachelor’s from the University of Kansas and a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
