Professional Appointments

Dr. Warrick L. Carter has been named president of Columbia College in Chicago. He will take office July 1. He is currently director of entertainment arts for Walt Disney Entertainment. He previously served as dean of faculty and as provost and vice president of academic affairs at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He earned a bachelor's in music education from Tennessee State University and a master's and doctorate in music education from Michigan State University.

Dr. David L. Smith has been named the John W. Chandler professor of English at Williams College in Massachusetts. Smith's teaching and scholarly writing span a wide range of American literature. He is co-editor with Cornel West and Jack Salzman of the "Encyclopedia of African-American Culture and History" and the author of two books of poetry. Smith earned a bachelor's in English and philosophy from the University of South Florida and a doctorate in English from the University of Chicago.

Carl Wyche has been appointed director of public safety at Delaware State University. Wyche has 26 years of experience in the police division in Hampton, Va. He earned a bachelor's in sociology from Old Dominion University and a master's in public administration from George Washington University's campus in Hampton Roads, Va.

Dr. Keith D. Parker has been named assistant dean of graduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Most recently he was special assistant for minority affairs to the dean of graduate studies. Parker earned a bachelor's in psychology and sociology from Delta State University and a master's and doctorate in sociology from Mississippi State University.

Rosemary Farmer is the new director of American ethnic student programs at Taylor University in Indiana. Previously, she was an admissions counselor and minority recruiter at Endicott College in Massachusetts. She earned a bachelor's in sociology from Point Loma Nazarene College in California and a master's in religious education from Pittsburgh Seminary.
