Professional Appointments

Dr. Marshall B. Bass has been elected chairman of South Carolina's Voorhees College Board of Trustees. Bass is the founder of Marshall B. Bass and Associates Inc., a management consulting firm. Bass earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, and doctorates of law from North Carolina Central University and civil laws from Saint Augustine's College in North Carolina.

Dr. Philip Howze is the new associate dean for public and collection development services at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale's Morris Library.  Howze comes from Wichita State University, where he held positions in teaching and administration.  Howze earned a bachelor's degree in social work and a master's in public administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He earned an additional master's in library and information science from the University of Iowa at Iowa City.

Barbara L.  Johnson has been appointed vice president and treasurer of Carleton College in Minnesota. Previously, Johnson served as vice president for finance and administration at Mars Hill College in North Carolina. Johnson earned a bachelor's in business education from Hampton University in Virginia and a master's in business administration with a specialty in accounting from Atlanta University.

Dr. Charles R. Thomas Jr. has been named an associate professor and vice chairman of the department of radiation oncology at the University of Texas' Health Science Center and San Antonio Cancer Institute. He comes to Texas from the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was an assistant professor in radiology oncology. Thomas earned a bachelor's from Dartmouth and a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Illinois. He is board certified in three specialties — internal medicine, medical and radiation oncology.

Dr. Samuel L. Myers has been elected president of the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management. Myers is a professor of human relations and social justice at the University of Minnesota's Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.  Myers earned a bachelor's in economics from Morgan State University and a doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
