Dr. Michael Engs, a counseling faculty member at Pima Community College, has been selected as postsecondary school counselor of the year by the Arizona School Counselor Association. Engs was selected for his dedication to and initiatives for area middle- and high-school students as well as his teaching responsibilities. Engs earned a bachelor's in English from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, a master's in counseling and guidance from the University of Arizona and a doctorate in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University.
Dr. Irving Pressley McPhail, chancellor of the Community College of Baltimore County, has been honored with the Pioneer Award, given as part of the 2000 American Association of Community Colleges annual convention by the National Council on Black American Affairs, a subsidiary of the association. The honor recognized his contributions on behalf of the economic development and educational interest of the African American community. McPhail earned a bachelor's in sociology from Cornell University, a master's in reading from Harvard University and a doctorate in reading/language arts from the University of Pennsylvania.
