Amherst College (Mass.) has received a seven-year, $13 million grant from the Argosy Foundation to establish the Center for Community Engagement. The center intends to build relationships
with regional and national community organizations working in a variety
of fields.

Bunker Hill Community College (Mass.) has received a $69,000 grant from Hewlett-Packard to create a new high-tech classroom. The HP Technology for Teaching Grant on the college’s Charlestown campus will fund the “Mobile SmartClass,” which will feature integrated, wireless mobile technology and other advanced teaching tools.

California State University-Northridge has received a four-year,
$1.9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health’s Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement program. The grant will fund programs that provide mathematical and writing training for under-represented students.

The CHIME Institute at the university has also received a two-year, $41,750 grant from the California Community Foundation to expand the institute’s community outreach and increase capacity at CHIME Charter Elementary School

Delaware State University has received a $25,000 grant from Delmarva Power to fund the Conectiv Endowed Scholarship Fund, which the power company established in 1998. Between 1998 and 2006, Delmarva Power has donated $343,717 to the institution.

The National Urban League has received a $1.6 million grant from AT&T to support technology programs for Black students. The grant will be used to create five new Digital Career Academies and expand offerings at 11 other academies.

The Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund has received a $100,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. The grant will provide scholarships for 15 students attending one of TMSF’s 47 member Black colleges.

Umoja Gathering Place, an organization that helps ensure college access for first-generation students, has received a two-year, $20,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation to support its operations.

Savannah State University (Ga.) has received a $3 million GEAR UP grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will provide educational support for more than 600 low-income sixth- and seventh-grade students in two area middle schools.

The University of Denver has received a $1.5 million grant from the Daniels Fund to support the Daniels Institute for Ethics and Social Entrepreneurship.
