Dr. Melvin C. Terrell has been appointed president of the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals. Terrell is vice president for student affairs at Northeastern Illinois University. He earned a bachelor's in history from Chicago State University, a master's in student personnel from Loyola University in Illinois and a doctorate in higher education administration from Southern Illinois University.
Dr. Zelma Harris, president of Parkland College in Illinois, was recently honored as "Woman of the Year" by the Harold Washington College's chapter of American Association of Women in Community Colleges. Under her leadership, Parkland has been recognized statewide and nationally for quality and excellence in teaching and learning. Harris earned a bachelor's from Prairie View A&M University, and a master's and doctorate from the University of Kansas.
Dr. Marie V. McDemmond, president of Norfolk State University in Virginia, was named "Administrator of the Year" by the Virginia Association of Educational Office Professionals and winner of the "Pioneer Award" for 2000 by the Outstanding Professional Women of Hampton Roads, Va. McDemmond earned her bachelor's at Xavier University of Louisiana, her master's at the University of New Orleans, and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
