Tulane University (La.) has received a $5 million grant from the Middle Eastern nation of Qatar to help support the university’s Community Health Center at Covenant House. Tulane will use the grant to triple capacity at the center by adding six examination rooms and purchasing
a mobile medical unit to serve neighborhoods most damaged by Katrina.
The University of Maryland and Prince George’s Community College (Md.) will launch a joint program with the help of a $1.7 million gift from the David H. and Suzanne D. Hillman Family Foundation. Under the program, students will begin college at PGCC before earning a bachelor’s from UMD.
