Duke University (N.C.) has received a $200,000 donation from J. Kevin Kenny Jr., to help endow the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership. Kenny, an alumnus of the university, is chair of the partnership’s national advisory board. The partnership aims to connect Duke with nonprofit organizations and residents in the communities surrounding the campus.

New Mexico State University’s College of Education has received a four-year, $800,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help train ethnically and linguistically diverse school psychologists.

North Carolina Central University has received a $2.3 million grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation to support the construction of the Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise Center for Excellence. The BRITE program is designed to help North Carolina expand the size of its biotechnology work force. The Golden LEAF Foundation has contributed a total of $21.6 million to the project.

South Texas College has received a three-year, $798,640 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to expand the number of Hispanic registered nurses the college can train.

The University of California, Los Angeles has received a two-year,
$1.5 million grant from the National Institute of Justice to study how justice is administered in American Indian communities. UCLA will work with the National Congress of American Indian Policy Research Center on the project.

A two-year, $100,000 grant from the Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati will help the University of Cincinnati establish a new Center for Jewish Education on campus, which will be run jointly by the Colleges of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services and the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences.

The University of Texas at El Paso has received a $1 million grant from the Department of Defense to establish the Center for Defense Systems Research. The center will focus on defense systems and border security issues.

Xavier University of Louisiana has received a $100,000 gift from the family of former trustee Evelyn Landis Christman. The gift will be used to fund an endowed scholarship. Christman served on the board in the early 1980s.

Yale University (Conn.) has received a $57.3 million Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health as part of a national initiative to increase the speed that research moves from the laboratory to patients. The grant includes $31.5 million for new resources and $25.8 million to continue existing programs at Yale-New Haven Hospital’s General Clinical Research Center.
