Dr. Pamela Trotman Reid, who has served as president of the University of Saint Joseph since January 2008, announced that she plans to retire upon completion of her contract and the 2014-’15 academic year.
“I truly enjoyed and will forever cherish my time with the students, faculty, trustees, alumni, staff and friends of the University of Saint Joseph and members of the Greater Hartford community,” Reid said in a statement released by the university. “Now I want to develop my other interests as well as spend more time, while I have the health and energy, with my family, including my children and grandchildren, who are spread out across the United States.”
Reid has overseen the West Hartford, Conn., school’s transition from a college to university and also established its first professional doctoral program as she initiated the School of Pharmacy.
“Pam Reid has been a transformational leader,” Jeanne B. Merola, former chair of the board of trustees, said in a statement released by the university. “She created the vision for the new University of Saint Joseph. She provided the energy and led her team to make it all that it can be.”
E. Clayton “Skip” Gengras Jr., chairman of the board of trustees, said that a committee is being formed to conduct a search for its next president.
“The University is well-poised for continued growth and highly regarded for its academic excellence and community involvement,” said Gengras. “We look forward to identifying its next leader to build on Dr. Reid’s accomplishments.”
