Dr. Steven Knapp has been appointed the 16th president of George Washington University (D.C.), effective Aug. 1, 2007. He is currently provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Johns Hopkins University. Knapp holds a bachelor’s from Yale University and a master’s and doctorate from Cornell University.
Dr. A. Toy Caldwell-Colbert has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Central State University (Ohio). She earned a bachelor’s from Spelman College and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Georgia.
Kimberly Goff-Crews has been appointed vice president and dean of students at the University of Chicago. She is currently dean of students at Wellesley College. Goff-Crews holds a bachelor’s from Yale University and a law degree from Yale Law School.
Heidi Ellis has been named vice president of business affairs at Austin College (Texas). She was most recently vice president of financial services at North Central Texas College. Ellis holds a bachelor’s and a master’s from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Vernon L. Hawkins has been appointed associate vice president of workforce and continuing education at Brookhaven College (Texas). He was most recently executive dean of career and technical education at Mountain View College. Hawkins earned a bachelor’s from Oklahoma State University and an MBA from Amberton University.
John B. Herrington, the nation’s first American Indian astronaut, has been appointed director of the Center for Space Studies at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He earned a bachelor’s from UCCS and a master’s from the Naval Postgraduate School.
