Professional Appointments

Dr. Karen Lawrence has been named the 10th president of Sarah Lawrence College (N.Y.). She was most recently dean of the School of Humanities at the University of California, Irvine. Lawrence holds a bachelor’s from Yale University, a master’s from Tufts University and a doctorate from Columbia University.

Dr. Jocelyn Briddell has been named dean of student life at Connecticut College. She was most recently dean of students at Douglass College at Rutgers. Briddell earned a bachelor’s from Douglass College, a master’s from the College of New Jersey and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Ruby Evans has been appointed vice chancellor for academic affairs at Southern University at Shreveport (La.). She was previously an associate professor at the University of Central Florida. Evans holds a bachelor’s from Grambling State University, a master’s from Louisiana State University and a doctorate from the University of Florida.

Dr. Rose M. Harris has been appointed chair of the political science and public administration department at Grambling State University (La.). She was most recently director of the Louisiana Center for Women & Government. Harris holds a bachelor’s from Southern University, a master’s from Howard University and a doctorate from Rutgers University.

Dr. Stephan Hiroshi Gilchrist  has been appointed director of institutional diversity at Wells College (N.Y.). He earned a bachelor’s from California State University-Fullerton, a master’s from Southern Oregon University and a master’s and doctorate from Portland State University.

Dr. E. Daniel Kapraun has been appointed vice president of student affairs at Baltimore City Community College. He earned a bachelor’s from Towson State University and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Virginia.

Dr. Havidán Rodríguez has been named vice provost for academic affairs and international programs at the University of Delaware. He earned a bachelor’s from the University of Maryland, a master’s from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

J. Michael Segawa has been named vice president for student affairs and dean of students at the University of Puget Sound (Wash.). He had previously been associate dean for student development. Segawa holds a bachelor’s from the University of California, Irvine and a master’s from Colorado State University.

Dr. Artie Travis has been appointed vice president for the division of student affairs and campus life at Bowie State University (Md.). He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s from Western Illinois University and a doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
