Tohono O’odham Community College (Ariz.) has received a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to fund Project NATIVE for four years. The project aims to increase the number
of American Indian teachers and administrators in schools serving Native students. The grant will support the educational progress of 40 American Indian students.
The University of Georgia’s Center for Community Design and Preservation has received a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to fund a workshop discussing Hispanic participation in the planning process and rural community design. The workshop, called “Your Town: The Citizens’ Institute on Rural Design,” will be hosted by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter.
The University of Missouri has received a $420,862 donation from the estate of Virginia Etheridge to support the travel and care of Tim and Terry, two mules the university uses as mascots. The donation will be used to cover the mule team’s travel expenses, care and feeding, as well as maintenance for a truck and trailer and a 12-person wagon the mules pull during parades and university events.
