Dr. Reginald S. Avery has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at Alma College in Michigan. Previously Avery was vice president for academic affairs at Kentucky State University and before that the founding dean of the school of professional programs at Benedict College in South Carolina. Avery earned a bachelor's in sociology from North Carolina A&T State University, a master's in social work from George Williams College and a doctorate in social welfare with specialization in planning and administration from Brandeis University.

Dr. Donald "Guy" Generals is the new vice president for student affairs at the State University of New York's Rockland Community College.  Generals previously served as dean of student and cultural affairs at Passaic County Community College. He earned a bachelor's in political science and a master's in urban education/community service, both from William Paterson College, and a doctorate in social and philosophical foundations of education from Rutgers University.

William H. Gary Sr. has joined the staff of Northern Virginia Community College as the new dean of work-force development. Gary comes to the college from NavCom Systems, where he was vice president of operations. Gary earned a bachelor's in psychology from Morehouse College and a master's in industrial relations from Rutgers University.


Dr. David Williams II has been named vice chancellor, general counsel and secretary of Vanderbilt University. Williams also will serve as a professor of law. Before the appointment, Williams was a vice president and professor of law at Ohio State University. Williams earned a bachelor's and a master's in education from Northern Michigan University, a master's of business administration and a law degree from the University of Detroit and a degree in taxation from the New York University School of Law.

Dr. Jennifer Berlinda Thompson, an assistant professor of liberal studies at Roosevelt University in Chicago, has been appointed as the Great Lakes regional representative to the national Women's Studies Association.  Thompson earned a bachelor's in English writing from Knox College in Illinois, a master's of divinity from Yale University Divinity School, a second master's in creative writing and theater from Brown University and a doctorate in interdisciplinary studies from Emory University.
