Dr. Jose Cruz Jr., a professor of education at the University of South Florida, has been elected chair of the Coalition of Organizations for the Professional Preparation of Educators of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The coalition, composed of 33 organizations, is the only national accrediting body for teacher education recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Cruz earned a bachelor's from Our Lady of the Lake University, a master's from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Dr. Julius H. Jackson, Dr. Julius H. Jackson, a professor of microbiology at Michigan State University, is the recipient of the 2000 William A. Hinton Research Training Award of the American Society of Microbiology. The award is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions toward fostering the research training of under-represented minorities in microbiology. Jackson earned a bachelor's and a doctorate in microbiology from the University of Kansas. He was a postdoctoral fellow in molecular biology, microbial physiology and genetics at Purdue University.
