Protecting the Traditions of HBCUs

I think this is an excellent move on the part of the Morehouse staff. Whereas it may be viewed by some as an attempt to “weed out” those who do not honor or understand the tradition and the legacy, it is important that alumni of all Black colleges honor, protect and promote the traditions and legacies of those institutions of higher learning. The best and the brightest may not score well on standardized tests. This process enables one who has the drive and the determination to have access and a chance.

I graduated from Morehouse in 1972 and I applaud the administration for having the temerity to enhance its admission policy. In light of recent incidents at the ’House, it would be irresponsible to remain stuck to the status quo. While the interview of prospective students might yield inconclusive evidence of one’s character traits, it probably will provide enough information to make a reasonable assessment of the student.
