With Student Loan Companies Under Scrutiny, Officials Say Reforms in Rules and Regulations Sorely Needed

As a college freshman with financial need, Gabriel Pendas had no idea about preferred lender lists or the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Given a list of loan companies, he simply chose the one at the top of the list and filed the paperwork.
