Professional Appointments

DR. ERNEST JAMES WILSON III has been appointed dean of the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communication. He is currently a visiting professor at the school. Wilson holds a bachelor’s from Harvard College and a master’s and doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.

 

ELVIS BRANDON  has been named dean of allied health at Volunteer State Community College (Tenn.). He had most recently served as academic coordinator of clinical education at the college. Brandon earned an associate degree from VSCC, a bachelor’s from Middle Tennessee State University and a master’s from the University of Florida.

 

 

DR. B. AFENI COBHAM  has been appointed assistant provost for student life at the University of Denver. She was previously assistant dean of student life at Brown University. Cobham earned a bachelor’s from Marist College, a master’s from the University of Georgia and a master’s and doctorate from Indiana University.

 

ALFREDO GARCIA  has been named dean of St. Thomas University School of Law (Fla.). He is the nation’s first Cuban-born dean of an American Bar Association-approved law school and one of only seven Hispanic law school deans in the country. Garc’a holds a bachelor’s from Jacksonville University and a master’s and law degree from the University of Florida.

 

DR. JUAN R. GUARDIA  has been named director of multicultural affairs at Florida State University. He was most recently assistant director of diversity programs and services at George Mason University. Guardia holds a bachelor’s and master’s from FSU and a doctorate from Iowa State University.

 

DR. OLIVER G. MCGEE III  has been named vice president for research and compliance at Howard University (D.C.). He earned a bachelor’s from the Ohio State University, a master’s and doctorate from the University of Arizona and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

 

DR. JO-ANN ROLLE  has been appointed to the newly created position of senior vice president for academic and student affairs at the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising (N.Y.). She holds a bachelor’s from the University of Miami, a master’s from Southern Illinois University and a doctorate from Howard University.

 

DR. EDWARD M. STOLPER  has been named provost of the California Institute of Technology. He had been the William E. Leonhard Professor of Geology at the university. Stolper earned a bachelor’s from Harvard College, a master’s from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and a doctorate from Harvard University.

 

 

PERSHIA WILKINS  has been appointed director of diversity for Albany School of Law (N.Y.). She had previously served as assistant director for student and recent graduate relations at the law school. Wilkins earned a bachelor’s from the Uni-versity of Albany.
