Former Georgia star Saudia Roundtree has joined the Clemson women’s basketball team as an assistant coach.
Roundtree, a native of Anderson, was the Southeastern Conference’s player of the year in 1996 when she helped the Lady Bulldogs to a league title and a runner-up finish in the NCAA tournament.
Roundtree had been a head coach at Morris Brown and North Carolina A&T and an assistant at Alabama and Central Florida before taking the Clemson position on coach Cristy McKinney’s staff.
“I am ecstatic to be here,” Roundtree said. “I’m back home. I’m on cloud ten to just be part of coach McKinney’s staff.”
Roundtree set Georgia records with 226 assists in 1994-95. She averaged 6.4 assists a game for her career.
McKinney said Roundtree will be involved in most aspects of the Lady Tiger program. “She brings a lot of enthusiasm and energy to the program and will be a great role model for our players,” McKinney said.
