Luna Community College names interim president

LAS VEGAS N.M.

A former Northern New Mexico Community College president is now interim president of Luna Community College.

Luna’s trustees appointed Sigfredo Maestas to the post Monday. He is to serve while the trustees search for a president for the school.

The community college placed its previous interim president, Gilbert Sena, on leave last month, seven months after he was appointed to the job.

The college has been looking for a full-time president since Leroy Sanchez retired last year.

Board chairman Ambrose Castellano told Maestas that the trustees wanted his help for a few months while the search was under way, Maestas said.

He said he’s happy to help out but is not interested in holding the president’s job permanently.

Maestas was president of Northern New Mexico Community College in Espanola for 13 years before retiring two years ago. He also was academic dean at New Mexico Highlands University from 1974 to 1979 and taught chemistry there.
