An official of University Center, where public higher education classes are taught in Sioux Falls, says enrollment has hit all-time highs in many areas.
Mark Lee, the center’s executive dean, told the Board of Regents Thursday that the University Center served nearly 3,300 students over the summer, fall and spring terms during the past year. He reported an 11.1 percent increase in total credit hours delivered during the fall semester and a headcount increase of about 3 percent over last fall.
And last spring saw an 11 percent headcount increase over the previous spring semester, according to Lee.
The core student population is still mostly nontraditional students who live or work in Sioux Falls, he said. The average age of a University Center student is nearly 28.
He also reported that planning is complete for a new classroom building that will feature 55,100 square feet of classroom and office space and a 120-seat lecture hall. Lee also said the new Graduate Education and Applied Research Center will include 21,000 square feet of laboratory, support, and administrative space.
