U. of Iowa Arranges Quiet Places to Pray for Muslim Students

IOWA CITY, Iowa ― The University of Iowa has turned two rooms into prayer spaces for Muslim students.

The Muslim Student Association had asked the university for help in finding somewhere to pray on a campus with more than 30,000 students. The Iowa City Mosque is miles away.

Dean of students Lyn Redington says two rooms that had been used as offices were renovated into one prayer room for men and one for women.

Student Mohammed Ismail told Cedar Rapids station KCRG that “it’s just nice having a room where anyone can go and have a quiet place to pray. I’m hoping that other people, other students will use it a lot as well.”
