Interim Mississippi Valley State U. Leader Named

by Associated Press , July 9, 2007

JACKSON, Miss.
Veteran administrator Roy C. Hudson on Monday was named interim president of Mississippi Valley State University.

Hudson will assume the post being vacated by Lester C. Newman, who announced his resignation last month following a no-confidence vote from the faculty.

The state College Board named Hudson interim president during a special monthly meeting via teleconference.

Hudson has served in various capacities at Mississippi Valley since 1973. He was Mississippi Valley’s director of student teaching, vice president of administration and vice president for institutional advancement. Currently, he’s vice president of university relations.

Newman’s resignation becomes effective July 15th. He was the target of a “no confidence” vote by the Faculty Senate of the historically Black college in February.

Many faculty and alumni were critical of Newman’s “micromanagement” leadership style, and claimed he was a poor manager and exhibited unprofessional behavior toward Mississippi Valley supporters, including staff.
