Presidential Advisory Board

Reed Named to
Presidential Advisory Board

President Clinton announced last month that he intends to appoint Dr. Trudie Kibbe Reed to serve as a member of the President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Reed, of Little Rock, Ark., is the president of Philander Smith College in
Little Rock, the first woman to serve in that position in the college’s 123-year
history.
“I am proud to represent Philander Smith College on this board,” Reed says. “We want the world to hear about the great things that are happening on our campus. This appointment will help Philander and other HBCUs continue building traditions of excellence.”
The board issues an annual report on participation by HBCUs in federally supported programs and provides advice to the Secretary of Education on how to increase the private sector’s role in strengthening these institutions.
