University of Akron Announces Interim President

AKRON, Ohio ― The University of Akron has announced its interim president.

The university’s Board of Trustees on Monday named School of Law Dean Matthew Wilson as interim president.

In a statement, the university says Wilson has increased enrollment and employment rates at the School of Law. Wilson says he’s humbled by the appointment.

He replaces Scott Scarborough, who stepped down in May after the board determined the university needed new leadership. Scarborough took over as president in July 2014 and had a rocky tenue. He was criticized over cuts and a largely unsuccessful attempt to rebrand the school as “Ohio’s Polytechnic University.”

Wilson’s 18-month appointment begins immediately.
