Nebraska Educator Taking President’s Post in North Carolina

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. ― A North Carolina community college board has chosen a Nebraska educator to become the college’s next president.

Thomas Walker Jr. is expected to be confirmed by the State Board of Community Colleges July 26 as president of Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Walker has been president of Central Community College’s Grand Island campus in south-central Nebraska since July 2014.

The Grand Island Independent reports that Walker also worked in higher education in Missouri, Tennessee and North Carolina. He originally is from Lumberton, North Carolina, and he holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He will take the reins Sept. 1 at Wayne Community College on Sept. 1, replacing Dr. Kay Albertson, who will retire July 30.
