Dr. Hortense Hinton has been named dean of student development at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria campus. Hinton earned a bachelor’s in psychology from the State University of New York, a master’s in counseling from the University of the District of Columbia and a doctorate in counselor education from the University of Virginia.

Dr. William L. Pollard has been named founding dean of the college of human services and health professions at Syracuse University. Pollard has served as dean of Syracuse’s School of Social Work since 1989. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Shaw University, a master’s from the University of North Carolina and a doctorate from the University of Chicago.

Dr. Cheryl Presley is the new vice president for student affairs at Boston College. Previously Presley was associate vice president for student affairs at Colorado State University. She earned a bachelor’s and a master’s from Colorado State University, and a second master’s and a doctorate from the University of Michigan.
John Thompson III has been named the head coach of men’s basketball at
Princeton University. He has served as the junior varsity coach for the past four years. As an undergraduate, Thompson played basketball for Princeton, serving as co-captain of the team. He
graduated from the university in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in politics.

Dr. Leland Ware has been selected to become the University of Delaware’s first professor to hold the Louis L. Redding endowed chair for the study of law and public policy. Ware was previously a professor of law at St. Louis University’s School of Law. He earned his bachelor’s from Fisk University and a law degree from Boston College.

Dr. Gail Joyner-Fleming, an associate dean at South Carolina State University, has been named to the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Board of Examiners. She earned a bachelor’s from North Carolina A&T State University, a master’s from the University of Wisconsin and a doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
