Pittsburgh’s planned casino has yet to get its license, but the Community College of Allegheny County is already offering courses to those who would want to work in the gambling hall.
The Majestic Star Casino, tied up in litigation over its license, isn’t scheduled to open before late next year, and hiring won’t begin until the license is issued.
But based on the popularity of the jobs at the nearby Meadows Racetrack & Casino that opened last month where there were 20 applicants for each of the 500 available openings the most qualified will have the best chance.
“We’re ready when they’re ready,” Helen Kaiser, a community college spokeswoman, said. “I don’t think it’s ever too early to learn.”
The courses, with titles such as “Keep Them Playing and Happy,” teach potential workers how to portray a professional image, communication and listening skills, and sales techniques.
Majestic Star is expected to hire about 800 people.
