The author and editor of more than a dozen books and articles, he is a recognized scholar when it comes to the issues that impact young African American males.

According to AERA officials, the Committee on Scholars of Color in Education Awards recognize scholars in various stages in their careers who have contributed significantly to the understanding of issues that disproportionately affect minority populations, and minority scholars who have made a significant contribution to education research and development.
