Plymouth State University reports computer system was hacked

PLYMOUTH N.H.

Officials at Plymouth State University say they found evidence that hackers broke into the school’s computer system more than a year ago.

Officials say no student, employee, or alumni records were reached or compromised. The hacker program has been removed.

Plymouth State’s chief information officer, Dwight Fischer, says system logs indicate that a malicious program was posted in a PSU Web application. The program affected Web page content and directed users and Web traffic to an international website promoting the sale of software.

The breach was uncovered last week. Records indicate the malicious program was placed on a university Web server in April 2006 and was active for several months.
