SC educator appointed Coppin State University president

ADELPHI Md.

Reginald S. Avery has been appointed president of Coppin State University.

Avery currently serves as executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of South Carolina Upstate. He also filled in recently as acting chancellor in South Carolina while the chancellor was on sabattical.

Avery succeeds Stanley F. Battle at Coppin State, who left to become chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University.

Avery will take over at Coppin State in January. University provost Sadie Gregory has served as interim president since Battle’s departure in June.

Coppin State is a historically black, four-year liberal arts university in Baltimore.
