INDIANAPOLIS
Tennessee distance runner Felicia Guliford and Arizona swimmer Whitney Myers were among nine finalists selected Tuesday for the NCAA’s annual Woman of the Year award.
The winner will be announced Oct. 27 at an awards dinner in Indianapolis. Last year’s winner was Wake Forest’s Anne Bersagel in cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field.
Guliford, a member of Tennessee’s NCAA indoor champion track and field team in 2005, is a former Southeastern Conference indoor and outdoor champion at 5,000 meters. Myers, a three-time NCAA individual and two-time relay champion, has been a member of the U.S. National swimming and diving team since 2004, when she finished third at the Olympic Trials in the 200 butterfly.
The other finalists, selected from among 128 nominees from all three NCAA divisions, are:
Shauneen Garrahan, Amherst, cross country and indoor and outdoor track.
Anna Gutierrez, Seattle, soccer.
Jessica Javelet, Louisville, field hockey.
Ashley Parker , Lincoln, Pa., indoor and outdoor track and field.
Debbie Sharnak, Vassar, tennis.
Sarah Shearman, Truman State, volleyball.
Jamie Wolf, Clarion, swimming and diving.
