Two Former Montana State U Graduate Students Receive Fulbright Scholarships

BOZEMAN Mont.

Two recent graduate students at Montana State University have received Fulbright Scholarships, the school said.

Maria Tucker Frostic, a graduate of MSU’s Science and Natural History Filmmaking program, is making a film about puffins in Iceland. She finished shooting in July and August and is editing her film this fall.

Frostic said the birds’ main food supply, a small fish called a sand eel, has disappeared causing a decline in population and an apparent decline in reproduction.

Frostic is now working as an earth science producer for NASA.

Kelly Matheson plans to go to the Republic of Congo for five months beginning in January to study the ability of films to change policy, practice and law.

Matheson and several co-workers plan trips to villages, where they will show educational films, such as a film about the Ebola virus, and teach people about making films themselves.

Matheson will also be making a film while in Africa.
