Central Virginia Community College Closes After MRSA Scare

LYNCHBURG, Va.

Central Virginia Community College officials said the school’s main campus was closed Tuesday for cleaning after a staff member was diagnosed with MRS.

President Darrel Staat said classes will resume Wednesday. The closing only affects students at CVCC’s main campus in Lynchburg.

Staat said the staff member was diagnosed with an antibiotic-resistant skin infection, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and has since been hospitalized and is responding “quite well” to antibiotics.

Staat said local health officials said the school did not need to close for cleaning, but he said they “decided to err on the side of caution.”
